Promoting the Welfare of All Children

At Shere Infant and Nursery School, safeguarding is our highest priority. All staff and volunteers are expected to act with professional curiosity to safeguard the wellbeing of the children in our care. At our school we hold the attitude that ‘it does happen here.’

Are you worried about a child?

If any member of our school community is concerned about a child, they should report this, without delay to a member of our safeguarding team. Members of the public can also report concerns directly to the Children’s Single Point of Access (the CSPA) on 0300 470 9100.

High Quality Training

At Shere School, all staff participate in ongoing training to ensure they are equipped to deal with emerging safeguarding concerns. All staff have completed Prevent training in the last year.
Our safeguarding team receive additional training so that our safeguarding practice is effective. For example, the last year, the team have completed referral training linked to Prevent, Safer Recruitment Training and Brook Traffic Light Training.

Governace and Policy

Staff and school governors work together to ensure that our safeguarding policies lead to high quality practice. The implementation of these policies is the responsibility of the Executive Head teacher. You can find our current safeguarding policy here.

Our Safeguarding Committee is chaired by Mrs Helen Murray.

The Prevent Duty

The Prevent duty requires all schools and early years settings to have due regard to help prevent the risk of people becoming terrorists or being drawn in to terrorism. More information about the Prevent Duty can be found here.

Operation Encompass Scheme

Shere School and Nursery are signed up to Operation Encompass, a scheme run jointly between schools, Surrey Police and Surrey County Council. Operation Encompass has been designed to provide early reporting on any domestic incidents that occur outside of school and might have an impact on a child.
Operation Encompass will ensure that the Key Adult (Mrs Beattie) or the Deputy Key Adult (Mrs Smith) is informed the next morning when there has been a domestic incident or if a child has been reported missing. This means that the Key adult or the Deputy Key Adult can ensure that the child is supported whilst they are in school.

Online Safety

At Shere School we have effective systems in place to ensure our children are safe online. Our filtering software RM SafetyNet protects children from inappropriate content. Our monitoring software Smoothwall alerts the safeguarding team if a child attempts to access content that might suggest a safeguarding concern.
