Forest School in ‘The Wilderness’ at Clandon Park

At Shere School, nature is one of our six natural pedagogies. We believe that the environment is the third teacher and that natural environments promote possibilities and offer new contexts for exploration.

We know that there is a deep interdependence between humanity and nature, and we are clear that this must be nurtured. At Shere School, children are often outside with Forest School providing an extended and wilder opportunity for outdoor exploration and learning.

Forest School is a child centred, inspirational learning process, that offers opportunities for holistic growth through regular sessions. At Shere School, Forest School takes place at our own Forest School – The Wilderness at Clandon Park, arguably the best Forest School in the southeast! Here we are truly free, surrounded by mature trees reaching skyward the children relax on mossy banks, build dens, explore secret trails to new adventures and co-exist happily with all kinds of flora and fauna.

No one will protect what they don’t care about; and no one will care about what they have never experienced.

 David Attenborough

At Forest School, nature becomes a classroom with no walls, where children learn through self-directed play, by using their whole bodies and all of their senses, in an environment that nurtures their curiosity and strengthens their self-esteem.
